This paper reviews articles in the special issue on positive psychology in management (Clifton, 2000). Descriptions of common themes in the articles are presented, including managers as active promoters rather than just performers of regulative roles, the importance of measurement, and the importance of time spent by managers away from work on non-work activities. The author calls for more empirical research to support the hypotheses and contentions in the series, and notes the need to anchor the constructs presented here into existing literature such as contingency theories of leadership.
