Abstract:

This paper is a personal reflection on the founding of positive psychology. A researcher of subjective well-being for 20 years before the advent of positive psychology, Ed Diener was well positioned to understand how professional acceptance of positive topics changed over time. He describes the impact that Martin Seligman had on the field. Diener provides a description of the early positive psychology initiatives, and includes several personal anecdotes.
